Pitchfork Music Festival
Where/When Is It?: Union Park, Chicago (July 13-15).
What's It Like?: Pitchfork is always very thoughtful about how they curate their Chicago festival (and will gladly remind you of how they are masters at the art of music critiquing).
Notable Acts: Vampire Weekend, Feist, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Hot Chip, AraabMUZIK, A$AP Rocky, The Field, Liturgy, Kendrick Lamar, Grimes, and Cloud Nothings.
Types of People: As far as I can tell? White people.
Pros: You won't have to pay for it on layaway. Pitchfork's been really cool about keeping things affordable; single-day tickets go for $45 and a limited number of three-day passes go for $110.
Cons: I've heard some complaints about the sound quality, as well as the inanity of "beer tickets" i.e. getting in line to get a ticket to get into another line to get a beer. And, of course, if you've ever been to the website, you know that the average Pitchfork fan takes music snobbery to startling levels. Overall though, Pitchfork seems to be a relative crowd-pleaser.
