Sacha Baron Cohen

Borat creator Sacha Baron Cohen wasn't technically barred from attending the 2012 Oscars ceremony - at least, not as himself. Given his promotional antics for his political satire film The Dictator that year, however, the Academy refused to have him attend or present if he showed up in character.

He ignored their request and hit the carpet that year in full Dictator mode, even going so far as to spill the jokingly referred-to "ashes of Kim Jong Il" on Ryan Seacrest.

He's attended the ceremony plenty of times since then alongside wife Isla Fisher, so it seems he didn't face any major consequences afterwards.
