Carmine Caridi

The late actor Carmine Caridi, known for his role in The Godfather films, was the first person to be booted from the Academy itself in 2004, after he was accused of illegally circulating VHS screeners of films meant only for members' voting purposes. He was sued over copyright infringement by Sony and Time Warner, but was ultimately cleared of any wrongdoing. Nevertheless, the Academy ban still stood until his death in 2019.
