James McCartney @ The Roxy
One thing about being the son of one of the most famous musicians of all time is that, while it will certainly get your foot in whatever door you're trying to open, it's also bound to invite an ocean of assuredly unfavorable comparisons, accusations of nepotism, and general ill will. While you can never completely fail, success isn't exactly guaranteed, either. That's why it's refreshing that despite being a 2nd generation Beatle and a studio musician in his own right, James McCartney took his time writing and releasing his own music, and the result is, well, not very Beatles-esque. In fact, LA Weekly said it most resembled Bakesale-era Sebadoh, and while I'm not sure it really recreates the all-important roughest/grungiest 15% of Sebadoh (and to be fair, how could someone who literally spent the first three years of his life on tour with Wings ever hope to capture "grungy"?), the comparison is not entirely invalid. See him now before he goes on tour with Dhani Harrison, Sean Lennon and Zak Starkey and any talk of musical originality flies out the window. [Details]
