A+D Architecture and Design Museum > Los Angeles (A+D) is celebrating 12 years of cutting edge exhibitions, progressive architecture and design programs with its annual gala. This year's theme is “Celebrate: The Journey” and will be on Saturday, May 11. Last year’s Celebrate: The Wearable sold out, so hurry up and mark your calendar!
It's not hard to understand why last year's gala was a smashing success. Models strutted forward thinking fashions--by top names in architecture to fashion--down the catwalk to the hypnotic beats of KCRW DJ Raul Campos.
Toasting the artistic journey that fuels truly great design, the evening will feature models in a runway presentation of one-of-a-kind carry-on suitcases that could include anything from a vintage train case or modern day satchel to a futuristic jet-pak. The designers' only restriction is that their artwork conform to the allowable TSA designated carry-on luggage size. Expect to see some truly amazing work, as over 40 world-renowned artists, architects and designers are participating, including industrial designer Karim Rashid, L.A. based architect Steven Ehrlich, celeb interior designer Kathryn M. Ireland (Bravo’s Million Dollar Decorators) and multi-faceted talent and designer Cristobal Valecillos. Modeled performance-style during the event, the pieces will then be available for purchase as part of that night’s premier silent auction, with all proceeds benefiting A+D. Trust us when we say that by the end of the presentation, the question at the forefront of your mind will be, "Should I actually use it, or display it in my living room as art?"
As for the night's events: the evening will be emceed by actor and TV host (Discovery-Planet Green's Alter Eco) Boise Thomas. The festivities will also include a return of DJ Raul Campos, cuisine from famed caterer Scott Roeb, and fabulous refreshments by PAMA.
In addition to the one-of-a-kind pieces, design and travel enthusiasts will want to check out Paddle8 starting April 29-May 11 to get first shot at the additional donated silent auction items. They include a night at the Andaz Hotel on 5th Avenue (New York), a Richard Meier signed lithograph and “Ana” watch, a Perrin Paris Ball Bag, the photograph "Farnsworth House” (42" X 60") by Scott Frances, l.a. Eyeworks sunglasses, Marmol Radziner jewelry, a custom Carver Skateboard, and a weekend in Marfa, Texas including accommodations and tours. Phew. And that's just the start. Silent auction ends at the event!
