Girls Aloud

Girls Aloud, UK
Girls Aloud is the product of Popstars: The Rivals, a British reality TV show that aired in 2002 and featured a competition in which viewers chose the contestants who would eventually form this girl group. Girls Aloud is one of the few reality TV groups to reach such a high level of fame and to remain relevant for close to a decade. After releasing 20 consecutive number one singles, the group chose to go on hiatus in late 2009, promising they would reunite to record their next album in 2010. Apart from a few performances the reunion has yet to happen, but the girls have been busy—in 2008 member Cheryl Cole replaced Sharon Osbourne as a judge on Britain’s Got Talent, while a number of other members have gone on to successful solo recording careers. 2012 marks the group’s 10th anniversary, and all five members have promised that they will perform together this year.
