Julie Mehretu, Liminal Squared

Julie Mehretu, Liminal Squared
Marking her first major solo exhibition at Marian Goodman Gallery, Julie Mehretu presents a series of new paintings and etchings created during the aftermath of the Arab Spring. The pieces notably incorporate layers of architectural inspiration, from ancient city plans to tomb designs, in order to engage viewers in what Mehretu calls a "psychogeography." By combining graphic drawings, spontaneous gesture, and erasure marks, she illustrates the development of social history in relation to its geographical space. When: Through June 22 Where: Marian Goodman Gallery, 24 West 57th Street [Photo via]
