Alex points out the worst mistakes women can make with their hair; first on the list is wearing a ponytail. "Ladies mess up their hairlines by having too tight of a ponytail. Anytime we put pressure on a follicle, it's bad for the scalp. We brush it backwards, we brush it wet. That's putting tension on the hair and that's why we have a lot of thinning around our faces," Alex states. "If you have long hair, sleep with it up so there's no friction or pulling."

One of the worst things she's seen over the past 20 years is mold in children's hair. This is caused by putting their hair up while it's still wet.

Another thing people are doing wrong is putting dry shampoo over oily hair. "You should use dry shampoo before the oil starts - when you go to bed at night or before the gym. You want to catch it before it starts," she continues. Think of it like deodorant - you put it on before you sweat.

As for split ends - there are some treatments, but you need to cut it off. And if you're bleaching your hair, applying heat or constantly brushing, you're going to have a lot of split ends. In between haircuts, you can use split end treatments like Goldwell Kerasilk's Split End Recovery Concentrate or their Reconstruct Restorative Balm - both form protective coats to mend the split ends and avoid new ones. Your hair will be frizzy too, so after you towel dry (gently of course) use a quarter size drop of KMS's Tame Frizz Smoothing Lotion.  When you're ready to style, Fatboy's Perfect Putty is a smooth and creamy styling cream that won't pull your hair or add buildup.
