"Best $2k I Ever Spent!" A Village People Birthday Party For Ben Lerer At Citrine

by SARAH MANDATO · September 30, 2009

Nothing says bar mitzvah birthday quite like a little Village People, so it's easy to see why the group championing a recent marathon birthday run at Citrine got their YMCA on to celebrate another year of (Thrillist founder) Ben Lerer. The band's Randy Jones (aka the "cowboy") graced the guests with his presence for a spirited rendition of the 70's hit. Ben did his best to multitask both the arm movements and singing, which proved slightly challenging after many rounds of drinks. The singer and gay icon's (Randy, not Ben) appearance follows a hysterical cameo on "Flight of the Conchords" earlier this year, where he participated in the duo's music video for "Too Many D-cks." The birthday was thus an obvious follow up. The party doubled as a sort of last hurrah for the birthday boy, who ties the knot, this weekend. GofG wishes him all the best in this exciting life step. Is Ben all grows up?

Lerer loves the YMCA. Where do you think he goes to pump iron?
