Trick Mirror - Jia Tolentino

When Trick Mirror was released this summer, it quickly became a fan-favorite amongst the literary crowd. Jia is a staff writer at The New Yorker and a beloved essayist. When Obama released his yearly book suggestions and included Trick Mirror, at that moment, every liberal woman in America immediately bumped this took to the top of their to-read list.

Trick Mirror is the kind of book you’d read in a feminist theory class in college. While some essays are pure page turners (I loved the one on her reality TV experience), others are a bit more academic. I’d recommend Trick Mirror for those who aren’t a fan of light/fluffy reads, and are instead looking to dive into something a bit more substantial.
