[via] Marcus Samuelsson is an award-winning chef, cookbook author, philanthropist, and founder of FoodRepublic.com. Born in Ethiopia and raised in Sweden he has made New York City his new home. His international background is what inspires him to create his distinct and diverse cuisine. He was the chef and co-owner of Aquavit, and received two three-star ratings from The New York Times, making him the youngest chef to ever receive the desired rating. He has also received consecutive four star ratings by Forbes' annual All-Star Eateries and was hailed as one of "The Greatest Chefs of America" by the Culinary Institute of America. In 2003, he received the James Beard Foundation Award for Best Chef: New York City, having already won the foundation’s 1999 best Rising Star Chef honor. He also appeared as a contestant on Top Chef. Currently, he helms the kitchen at Harlem's Red Rooster.
