Dear Guest of a Guest: Should I Wear A Designer Man Purse?

by Stanely Stuyvesant · July 22, 2010

This depends entirely on whether you are a homosexual or a metrosexual.  If you are straight you shouldn't wear one, and if you're gay, well you shouldn't wear one either.  It is widely accepted that the purse-wearing should be left to the ladies.

So where exactly did this unfortunate fashion article come from?  It is often thought to be an unpleasant bi-product of the metrosexual that emerged in the noughties or a natural contraction of the messenger bag that lux designers readily ceased upon.  But the trend actually predates all of this considerably.  Yes, our investigative team has traced this fashion head-scratcher back to (wait for it)...the 17th century!  Not suprisingly, like most modern day ills, man bags look to have originated in colonialist Britain.  Records indicate that the Redcoats sported these wares as part of their uniform.

And, therefore, it doesn't come as much of a surprise that one of the most prolific modern offenders is also a Brit.

Oh come on Becks, you can do without the manbag

Victoria Beckham, David Beckham This is unsual, Victoria for once isn't the one committing a fashion faux paus
