Project Sunshine held its Fifth Annual Golf Classic on September 21, 2015 at the prestigious Century Country Club in Purchase, New York. The event raised an amazing $432,000 (and still counting!) in support of Project Sunshine’s programs that reach thousands of children facing medical challenges and their family members worldwide each year.
The event was chaired by Natan Bibliowicz, who was joined by host committee members Jonathan Andrew, Kay Booth, Mike Conway, Rosamond Cosentino, Danny Frank, Michael Goldman, Timothy Goodall, Douglas Hammond, Mike James, Doris Meister, Linda Neely, Edward O’Malley, Timothy Robb, Peter Scaturro, Douglas Scherr, MD, Brett Schneider, Robert Vogliano, and Noel Wallace. NFP generously supported this year’s event as Title Sponsor.
Golf pro Amy Alcott, who has been inducted into both the LPGA and World Golf Halls of Fame, led a morning golf clinic and later teed off with each foursome. Project Sunshine founder Joseph Weilgus introduced Miss Universe 2014 Paulina Vega, who spoke about her eagerness to begin volunteering with Project Sunshine this fall. Out on the course, players enjoyed beer courtesy of Captain Lawrence Brewing Company of Elmsford, NY and healthy snacks prepared by Chef Palak Patel, Project Sunshine Program Ambassador and winner of Food Network’s Chopped.
After a sunny round of golf, the players and dinner guests mingled at cocktail hour and shopped the silent auction while enjoying a live band and QTR wine provided by Natan and Jessica Bibliowicz. The evening program kicked off with Amy Alcott presenting the golfer awards to lucky prize recipients. Event Chair Natan Bibliowicz welcomed guests and highlighted the impact of the Project Sunshine Golf Classic. Project Sunshine Program Ambassador and Spokesperson Quemuel Arroyo, former patient and current Project Sunshine volunteer, spoke about his personal experience as the recipient of Project Sunshine programming. Special guest Auctioneer Jessica Bibliowicz then took to the stage to lead a record-breaking live auction.
Project Sunshine is deeply grateful to Natan Bibliowicz for his incredible vision, leadership, and dedication. His commitment to the children and families we serve is inspiring. In the five years since its inception, proceeds from the Annual Golf Classic have reached over $2 million – allowing so many courageous young patients to receive the attention they greatly deserve.
