The southern French region of Languedoc took centerstage last week in NYC with a pop-up tasting tour at Chelsea Market. As the owner of Corkbuzz Wine Bar, and a Master Sommelier, Laura Fiorvanti was the perfect pick to lead the wine-filled evening!
Fiorvanti first took attendees through a curated tasting of six wines from the appellation (AOP) of Languedoc, including red, white and sparkling. A benchmark of quality, AOP Languedoc wines are delicious and environmentally driven, led by enterprising winemakers with a creative spirit. Fiorvanti highlighted Languedoc as the most organic wine region in France, overall representing an impressive 10% of the world’s organic vines.
After the tasting at Corkbuzz, guests set off on a private tour of Chelsea Market.
First stop: The Lobster Place, where Chef David Seigal matched crisp white and rosé wines with fresh Maine oysters and grilled wild shrimp seasoned with garlic aioli and smoked paprika.
Next up: Chef Charcutier Pablo Lopez of Dickson’s Farmstand Meats found inspiration in the savory notes of Languedoc reds presented with a selection of house-cured meats.
Chelsea Market’s artisanal food and wine scene is a most delicious place to discover AOP Languedoc wines —a current favorite among foodies and somms alike. AOP Languedoc’s enviable location, which stretches along the southern Mediterranean coast from Montpellier to the Spanish border, makes it a go-to for versatile wines that pair well with all kinds of cuisine.
