Do Your Part & Help Spruce Up Seward Park With New York Junior League This Spring

by Guest of A Guest · April 26, 2022

What would life in New York be without safe pockets of green space to decompress and escape the sidewalk sprint?

This spring, the New York Junior League will be revamping Seward Park. The small slice of space nestled between Chinatown and the Lower East Side serves as a big retreat for the neighborhood. Spanning over three acres, it features everything from basketball courts and volleyball courts to jungle gyms and fountains for children to enjoy.

Over the next five weekends, NYJL's Playground Improvement Project committee will be spearheading the painting, landscaping and restoring of this critical community space - and they could definitely use your help!

I mean, what better way could there be to spend a Saturday or Sunday than sprucing up one of New York's beautiful parks?

“From boosting health and reducing premature mortality rates to offering opportunities for recreation and to gather together, parks are vital to New York City communities’ wellbeing,” shared Mercedes de Guardiola, Playground Improvement Project Co-Chair. “Through our partnerships with the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation and local communities, the Playground Improvement Project is working to ensure that all New Yorkers have access to high-quality green spaces.”

“As New York City continues to rebuild from the pandemic, we are thrilled to be restoring Seward Park and neighboring green spaces in Chinatown and the Lower East Side,” added Caitlin Martin, Playground Improvement Project Co-Chair. “Through this volunteer-powered project, the New York Junior League will leave a long-term and sustained impact on these invaluable green spaces and the communities they serve.”
