The annual Library Lions Gala is an always elegant affair - perhaps even the city at its most sophisticated!
For an evening, the New York Public Library's iconic Stephen A. Schwarzman Building swells into an even larger literary Mecca, welcoming over 350 of the most influential, inspiring and generous New Yorkers to celebrate the accomplishments of the year's honorees, advocates for literature, learning and community including author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, journalist Tina Brown, novelist Jonathan Lethem and philanthropic leader Darren Walker.
Following a cheerful cocktail hour in Astor Hall, the sea of glamorous guests ascended the institution's grand staircase, making their way up to The Rose Main Reading Room. Long research tables covered in luxurious velvet cloths and punctuated with autumnal floral arrangements, greenery climbing up the bookshelf-lined walls, and a swinging live soundtrack of musicians set the scene for a lively dinner.
With this year marking the 125th anniversary of the library, it was only fitting that the soirée set a new benchmark, raising more than twice its previous record in critical funds – just over $5.8 million.
