Can you imagine being the kind of person who goes to Times Square on New Year's Eve to stand outside huddled in a herd of puffer jacketed penguins swaying in unison, switching their body weight back and forth between legs to keep warm, all just to watch the ball drop in person?
New York has far too many actually compelling, non-freezing options. Dinners, dance parties, a surrealist ball...
CAVIAR RUSSE
For the high roller with a taste for the finer things, Caviar Russe is certainly the place to be. Whether you're perched at the bar lounge, or cozied up in the dining room, expect to be flooded with course after course of fancy foodie favorites - champagne, truffles, foie gras, dover sole, seafood towers, and obviously, caviar!
PEBBLE BAR
There just aren't enough occasions to hit the town dressed up as a proper showgirl, you know?
To kick off 2024 on a most festive sartorial foot, Pebble Bar is transforming into a Copacabana Discotheque dream. Embrace your inner Lola, toss some yellow feathers in your hair with a dress cut down to there and merengue the night away.
RAOUL'S
Of course you'll never land a seat here to ring in the new year - those have all been spoken for since the moment they opened up - but hey, who isn't curious to sneak a peak at what they're missing? A bar packed with distinctly cool downtown revelers, a ceiling strewn with gold and silver balloons that leaves a curtain of strings for guests to swim their way through, a menu of the most deliciously executed dishes in the city, a psychic holding court upstairs by the bathroom, perhaps even a burlesque dancer making the bar her stage.
Ah... maybe next year.
JEAN'S
For an all-in-one evening that'll keep you from dining and dashing to the next spot, upstairs/downstairs hybrid Jean's will have you set. A reservation for the late night seating in the restaurant includes a seafood plateaux, sparkling midnight toast and entry to downstairs after midnight. Though you can always just skip straight to the fun and grab a ticket for the party, which will feature sets by Branchez, Orazio Rispo and DJ Uncle Mike.
FOUQUET'S
Couldn't make it to Paris? Quel dommage. You can still travel to the city of lights by way of Tribeca at uber chic hotel Fouquet's. Their Brasserie will be serving up a five-course chefs tasting menu of culinary delights - Ora King Salmon with Blinis, Caviar, and Citrus Crème Fraîche, Pamesan Gnocchi with White Alba Truffles, and Sage Cream, Roasted Dover Sole with Pineapple Caper Sauce, and Chicory Salad, Filet of Beef with Pomme Purée, Pan Seared Foie Gras, and Truffle Beef Jus, and as if all of that wasn't enough, to finish it off a Chocolate Layer Cake with Strawberry Cremeux and Feuilletine Crunch.
NEW YEAR'S EVE SURREALIST BALL
Susanne Bartsch knows how to throw a party. She and Matt Kovalsky will be putting on a glittering surrealist show at The Gatsby Mansion, taking over the entire immersive space, from the ballroom, parlor and boudoir to the library, speakeasy, and a host of other secret corners just waiting for you to happen upon. Think Eyes Wide Shut.
PARTRIDGE AT THE STANDARD, EAST VILLAGE
This year was nuts. Barbie, Britney, all the crazy celebrity break-ups! Test your pop culture knowledge at The Standard East Village's holiday pop-up Partridge with comedian Ali Weiss's year-in-review trivia soirée. Winners will walk away with a fun array of prizes, including a hotel stay!
CHAPEL BAR
Black tie is always the answer in our book. Grab that outfit you just had to have, spent more money than you should have on, and still haven't worn yet to drink and dance yourself silly under the chandelier at Chapel Bar.
RAF'S
When it comes to New Year's Eve, the morning after's just as important as the night before. Fast favorite Raf's is hosting a holiday brunch that'll have you happy to get out of bed and put on real clothes, no matter how early into the morning your party plans took you. After all, there's no sorry state that their pastry situation can't sort out.
