Last night, fans of the lyricist and composer Stephen Smith gathered at the New York City Opera's Fall Gala to listen to a composition from Wicked, called Defying Gravity. The opera drew a wide crowd, from fashion designer Isaac Mizrahi and Princess Alexandra of Greece to Julia Koch and Victor Garber. Take a look inside the event!

Celebrities, fans, and theater aficionados came to the Koch Theater to support Stephen Schwartz, well-known lyricist and composer who scribed Broadway hits such as Godspell (1971), Pippin (1972), and Wicked (2003). Schwartz has contributed lyrics to Disney hits such as Pocahantas and The Hunchback of Notre Dame. This season at the NYC Opera, Schwartz debuts his new work, Seance On A Wet Afternoon. Based off the novel by Mark McShane, this psychological thriller tells a story about a persistent psychich who coordinates a grand kidnapping scheme to reap the fame she so craves.
