To kick off the spring season, the Jewish Museum hosted its annual Purim Ball, flooding the great room of the Plaza Hotel with a revitalized interior inspired by the museum’s latest exhibition: The Sassoons. The exhibit documents the journey and reach of a Jewish family’s lineage around the globe, focusing in Iraq, India, China, and England. To represent the works therein, guests were greeted on the red carpet by two poodles, and a décor transformed by David Stark Design and Production.
Guests sipped on pomegranate cocktails and munched on canapés while shifting between the dance floor—led by DJ Timo Weiland—and tarot card readings by Larry & Raven. Following the gala dinner earlier in the night, the room came alive when guests donned their masks upon entrance—a tradition of Purim balls since the 1500s—and posed for photographs.
Over 1,200 were in attendance for the night. Some of New York’s bold-faced-names came dressed to the nines, including chef and designer Stephanie Nass, NYC Culture Club founder and gallerist Clayton Calvert, and Magazzino Italian Art’s Grace Astrove, who was also committee lead in organizing the event.
As the winter chill begins to thaw, the unseasonably warm night was a wonderful indicator of the events yet to come during the spring season of balls and benefits.
