If your date is engaged in conversation with someone else, don’t look bored/petrified/like one of the caterers. Strike up a conversation with someone else, take a lap around the room, or go smoke a cigarette if you really can’t bear to talk to anyone. But the point is -- make it clear to your date that you’re fine on your own, and don’t need to be worried after.
