It was my favorite party of Fashion Week 2011 and everyone was getting in on the fun (you can spot me totally getting into blogger mode as my subject was totally getting into her fashion pose mood, above). Ari Seth Cohen's (a former GofG'er!) party for Advanced Style, his site documenting the sartorial splendors of fashion subjects in their last stages of life, has taken off. And, last night was no indication he or it have any plans for slowing down. He brought in the young style rookie, Tavi Gevinson, to help him host a "cross-generational fashion week celebration of style, wisdom, classic elegance and flamboyance at the Ace Hotel." The result was magical.
Guests included fashion insiders, fans of The Style Rookie, Advanced Style, and the ladies made popular by the popular street style blog. Iris Apfel, Lynn Dell, Beatrix Ost, Ira Glass and Maira Kalman were among a few of the extraordinary guests in attendance. Highlights of the evening included celebrating the birthdays of two women about to turn 100 years old, Rose Sachs and Ruth Kobin. 91 year old artist and performer Ilona Royce Smithkin performed her infamous "eyelash cabaret" of Marlene Dietrich and Edith Piaf classics to the delight of everyone in the room.
The whole party left me feeling inspired. It was the most fun I've had at a Fashion Week Party in ages.
