Bibhu Mohapatra
Indian designer Bibhu Mohapatra started off his career designing clothing for his sister. It didn’t take long for Mohapatra to realize fashion was his calling -- he then moved to New York in 1996 where he enrolled at FIT. While studying he worked as assistant to the designer of American Fashion label Halston. Upon graduation, Bibhu went straight to work as Design Director at J. Mendel. With demand for his work at J. Mendel growing, he began working with clients privately and eventually resigned from J. Mendel in order to focus on creating his own label: Bibhu Mohapatra. He started work on his own line in 2008, a women’s luxury ready to wear, which launched during February Fashion Week of 2009. He focuses mixing high-end furs and Indian inspired fabrics.
