In case there was any confusion, winter is definitely here. With temperatures reaching lows of 16 degrees Fahrenheit and weather.com telling us that it feels like 1 degree out there (we would not dare challenge them by leaving the office and our space heaters which are constantly set at 75 degrees) - as a true fashion disciple, this can only mean one thing. It’s time to talk about swimsuits.
Last year we saw a small resurgence of the one piece- but really more in Vogue than on the beaches or in the pools. I mean let’s face it, with respect to tan lines; they just are not that practical.
Then there is the forever cliché that one-pieces are reserved for “bigger” girls. But in last night’s Gossip Girl, Serena VanDerWoodsen, who is hardly fat, showed us exactly how NOT to wear a one piece.
So; weather, practicality, and clichés aside; we would just like to state that from a fashion stand point, one-pieces are hot. If you know how to dress for your body type, you can accentuate the parts of your body that you love while drawing attention away from the parts that you may be a little more insecure about. I mean lets face it, very few of us look forward to shedding our cuddly cashmere in exchange for our “barely there bikinis”.
The recommendation: check out some of Carmen Marc Valvo’s one-pieces before the resort wear rush surges and satisfy your inner retro diva. You can grab my fave (shown above) from the 2008 collection here.
