The West Side Loft in New York City received a Loteria make-over Thursday night for El Museo del Barrio's annual Young International Circle Benefit. El Museo, NYC's leading Latino art and culture institution,  took this traditional card game of chance as their theme for a festive evening of celebration with dancing, cocktails, tunes spun by Nouveau Riche's Steven Love, and art by Teresa Villegas.

More story and photos from this event below...

Loteria is an old card game, similar to Bingo, that has been played since the 15th century, as a means to collect funds for the poor.  The cards themselves are now a form of Mexican folk art, depicting fabled Mexican figures like "El Catrin" (the Gentleman) and "El Borracho" (the Drunk), and have over time been adorned with images from simple fruits to scenes from the Day of The Dead (not the Romero movie).
