Back in 1994, the Chanel designer also faced backlash from Muslims around the world after incorporating verses from the Quran in his designs for the fashion house. A dress worn by supermodel Claudia Schiffer was emblazoned with Arabic script, which people recognized from the holy text. Muslim leaders called him out and Chanel was forced to make a formal apology.
