Duka

Duka scarf 1Duka (Swahili for shop) is an ethical fashion line run by two 30-something friends, Jules and Kate, that debuted in 2014. The stunning line launched with a collection of lively, hand-sewn, one-of-a-kind cotton scarves (that are normally known as traditional Kenyan kangas). Jules and Kate—besties since their childhood days in Connecticut—organized and trained natives in Kenya in an effort to provide them with fairly paid work. Duka's proverb scarves have one-line sayings to provide you with wisdom. This here is the Mitabaki scarf. Its insight? "Mitabaki ati ati langu hamlipati." (Roughly translated: "If you are talking badly, people won’t hear you.") A nice reminder to have pretty lips every time you reach for this pretty scarf. Beauty Tips: Supporting ethical brands never goes out of style. The Body Shop sells Shea Body Butter which includes rich shea sourced from northern Ghana. The brand pays over 500 women a fair wage to produce the moisturizing shea butter. Rub it on after your shower to protect your skin from the winter wind. Duka: Mitabaki Scarf, $165
