After 20 years of conquering the closets of South America's chicest, Maria Cher is starting from square one, launching Argentina's cult favorite fashion brand in New York.
What began with a boutique in the charming West Village retail stretch of Bleecker Street just a few months back has now lead to a second space, a gorgeous new shop perched prominently on the corner of Madison Avenue and 81st Street.
A quick neighborhood success, within the first four days of the Upper East Side store's soft opening, they met their sales goal for the month.
Clearly, the uptown crowd can't get enough of the comfortable, elegant collection that plays upon the line between masculine tailoring and feminine silhouettes. A classic black linen vest worn open over a tunic or boldly solo as a top. Printed skirts perfectly dressed up with heels or down with boots. A range of pants which hang about the hip with a cool girl edge somehow designed to flatter everyone.
A nouveau nomadic style New Yorkers are desperate to sport.
“When I met Maria, I was immediately touched by her courage to blur the cultural borders and explore new grounds," shared Giovanni Valdeavellano of Studio Poa, whose artwork is pepper throughout the space designed by Lula Galeano of Studio Galeon - plaster, travertine and concrete pieces washed in calming neutrals which define the boutique's raw aesthetic.
"It reminded me of my own traits. I went to the studio thinking about her story and during this time I reflected about what it must be like in Argentina. A place that I dream to visit because I have family ties there but have never been. The work I made for the store is really for Maria and her team in Argentina that in a short period of time have become a new set of ties to the land of silver. I feel proud and honored to have collaborated with Maria Cher in this dream come true.”
