It doesn't matter how stuffed your closet may be, at some point in the next month, week, or more likely day, you will find yourself with nothing to wear.
Lucky for you there's an App for everything these days, including, it seems, those last-minute, in-a-panic fashion moments.
Launched back in April of 2021 by co-founders Julia O’Mara and Brian McMahon, Pickle is a marketplace for New York's fashion set to rent out their barely worn items to trend-happy social butterflies. A community-based platform, it's kind of a mix between Poshmark and Rent The Runway, but way more convenient.
So it's Saturday morning and your going-out pack has just let you know that shit is on tonight, like go back to sleep because your evening alone is going to be a day and a half. A quick scroll through Pickle to pick your outfit (they have a Night Out section just for this desperate situation) and you'll have your look of choice by late afternoon.
Alongside photos of each piece, you'll find the designer, size (note: they've not much in the way of larger sizes at the moment, which is a bummer), a little blurb by the seller, the rental price (these range from $25 to over $225) and what neighborhood it's located in. You can either meet your seller at an agreed-upon location to do the swap, or take advantage of their door-to-door delivery service.
At the moment their higher-end offerings are pretty heavy on Zimmermann, Cult Gaia and Retrofete, but there's hope that their selection will grow beyond the basic.
Personally, I'm that friend with a crazy closet of everything, constantly loaning things out to everyone I know - cousins, colleagues, you name it. And I'm happy to do so for the free / obviously being able to cash it in for a favor at a later date in time.
But still, I guess I get the appeal of listing and renting.
Would you try it?
