Just when Zac Posen's Target (read: tar-zhay) synergy wasn't enough, the big-box go-to store brings in a hip collaboration with hip, upscale designer Calypso St. Barth.
The sophistication of the Calypso brand, whose founder, Christiane Celle, we recently interviewed about her chic fashion sense and aesthetic sensibilities, at first seems at odds with the middle brow ho-hum of Target's general sartorial offerings.
As InStyle notes, Calypso, a staple for stars like Jennifer Aniston and Kate Beckinsale, will create a fashion collection and home furnishings line for Target to launch May 1.
"Calypso St. Barth is a renowned global brand with an incredibly loyal following and we think Target's guests will love the no-fuss, sophisticated appeal of the collection," Target's senior vice president of merchandising Trish Adams told InStyle.
All that said, Target's continued trajectory toward injecting some of this haute couture into its collection seems a steady equilibrium in its merchandise that might appeal to a wider clientele base. Among women, Target's collaboration with William Rast and also with Libertine have been edgy and appealing ventures. The Calypso project should follow suit.
