Last night, the Metropolitan Museum of Art became hallowed ground. No, not because the Vatican lent out papal pieces for the new exhibition, "Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination," but because the Madonna herself filled the halls with her angelic voice.
Descending the grand staircase of the museum during the star-studded Met Gala festivities, Madonna blended into a monastery's worth of "monks," until pulling up her hood to reveal herself and launch into a heavenly surprise performance of - what else? - "Like A Prayer."
Some Joan of Arc-themed theatrics followed, until she finished off with a haunting rendition of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah."
