Snagging the role of Golden Globes Ambassador has been somewhat of a rite of passage among the young Hollywood elite, with the likes of Dakota Johnson (the daughter of Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson) and the Stallone sisters given the honor in the past. At the 78th Golden Globes, hosted in both New York and Los Angeles, Jackson and Satchel Lee were this year's ones to watch.
Both clad in Gucci, the It-Siblings certainly stole the show on the red carpet, but it wasn't just their fashion that made an impression. The children of iconic director Spike Lee and Tonya Lewis Lee, both Jackson and Satchel broke boundaries with their historic appointments at the ceremony. Jackson, 23, is the first Black male to hold the title, while 26-year-old Satchel is the first Golden Globe Ambassador to openly identify as queer.
Although COVID safety precautions prevented them from taking part in the usual duty of helping to hand out awards, the Lees were able to choose and highlight their respective causes for the evening, nonprofits which would receive $25,000 grants from the HFPA. Jackson chose the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, Satchel, the Callen-Lorde Community Health Center, a leader in LGBTQ-focused healthcare.
As for where we can expect to find them off the red carpet? Well, they both seem to be following in their parents' creative, multi-hyphenate footsteps. Satchel is exploring her talents as a writer and photographer and Jackson, also a photographer, recently launched his own creative agency, Indigo212. Safe to say this isn't the last time we'll see them in the spotlight.
