How did you get started in construction?
Out of college, I never imagined that I would work as a contractor. I started paying attention to the industry when I heard stories that my mom and her friends were getting stood up by their contractors. One friend even mentioned that she never got her deposit back! I was astonished that women were being taken advantage of and feeling intimidated, so I decided to take the situation into my own hands.
I created business cards that I passed out at the local grocery stores and began connecting women with the necessary tradespeople. More than that, I actually picked up these workers to make sure they would show up for the job and I would stay until they were finished to make sure it was done correctly. I didn’t know what my job was called at the time, but fast forward 20 years to utilizing my expertise and building my general contracting and construction management firm, Evergreen Construction.
