When you hear the term "Gypset," images of luxe bohemian teepees, off-the-map hideaways, and a bon vivant lifestyle might immediately come to mind. Author Julia Chaplin has documented this emerging group of artists, musicians, and other creatives, who are taking a new approach to travel and culture. In her two books, Gypset Travel and Gypset Style, Chaplin explores the unconventional, high-low lifestyle of the "new" jet set, providing inspiration for the nomad in all of us. With the third installation of the series, Gypset Living, having just been released, we decided to catch up with the journalist/editor/explorer/designer (she designs the Gypset clothing line!), at her home in Brooklyn to talk traveling on a budget, getting off the grid, and how she manages to bring the boho vibes to her NYC residence and what inspires her beautiful creations (hint: some of her inspiration comes from none other than Glade® candles!).
