Your other body of work, Every Curve, is especially fascinating. How did you decide to use embroidery as such a powerful medium?
I was drawn to hand-embroidery for Every Curve (which explores the influences of hip hop and Feminism in my upbringing) because it is a historically female form of expression, and when embroidering I feel I am drawing on a lineage of women (artists and otherwise) before me. It is also intimate, close, and time-consuming - which feels right for this work. [Photo via]
