Patriarch Prosper, a Morocco-born Frenchman, started his career as an art director, running a creative agency specializing in advertising for luxury fashion brands. After marketing high-end footwear, he realized that the same principles could be applied to books - if you made them stylish enough to become so coveted.

"99 percent of the time, a book is closed in your apartment," he once said in an interview. "So if it’s ugly, it’s a problem. It has to be beautiful."

He also applies that aesthetic sensibility when it comes to helping high-profile clients design bespoke libraries in their homes and offices around the world, a rather unique service offered by the company.
