McSorley’s Old Ale House
Though an obvious choice, there is no better way to celebrate the luck of the Irish than at the city’s oldest Irish establishment. Up for debate as to what year it actually opened, it is widely accepted to have opened its doors in 1854. McSorley’s has made a dent in history - newspaper articles and vintage photographs line the walls, sawdust lines the floor, and a long list of notable names have been guests at the bar. This includes past presidents such as Lincoln, Roosevelt, and Grant, as well as writers Hunter S. Thompson and E.E. Cummings. McSorley's even served as the NY Ranger’s Stanley Cup celebration station in 1994. This is a no-fuss site with two choices of beer: light or dark. Moral of the story, you’re bound to have a good time, soak up some history, and enjoy a good pint or 10.
