On the origin of Grungy Gentleman’s signature six stripes:
Initially was working with my friend Vick who worked at Mitchell and Ness, and we were working on some headwear and we wanted to play with stripes. Adidas has three and K-Swiss has five, and they have a block that nobody could have four, even though some designers do that—and I didn’t want to do anything with my branding that could be taken away from me. We played with thickness, thinness, quantity and stuff like that, and obviously after three and five was six, and we started thinning it out. Actually it was really cool, it was pretty quick—right when we tried it and we started to applying it not only to headwear, but to blazers and bomber jackets, it was obvious that it looked very luxury and I started imagining different fabrics and different appliqués and it took a life of its own. The fact that it spelled out G-R-U-N-G-Y, it all fell into place.
