What makes a perfume different, or special? A lot of times, marketing people will sit together and say, ‘okay, we need to reach girls 18 to 24, we have to have this in two months, it’ll retail for $50. Go.’ And that’s all they tell the fragrance house. And the last person involved, is the perfumer, and he or she has been told, this is the room you have to work with, and there’s very little to do there. But Frederic Malle said, I want to do fine fragrances, and I want to create artists. I had no idea there could be this much behind a spritz of perfume.
