Interview: Cynthia Rowley
I know you held your show this year at 5 Beekman. It's a really cool space-- what made you want to do a show there?
The whole idea of a fashion show seems very OLD fashioned to me! The idea that a designer spends a huge amount of money on every detail of a show and then basically says to the models "run past the photographers and let's hope we get a good shot is absurd"! The photo is the end product. It's all that matters and it's what will live on long after the experience is over. Most shows are fun for like the first 2 minutes and then it just get's boring --it's the format! So I'm trying to do something interesting that creates a great lasting image. It is a way to create unique content for everyone that comes to the show rather than a nearly identical shot of each look! I think everyone is used to seeing fashion, art, etc. online so a strong photo in a strong setting is what 's most important.
