Valentina Kova may be Russian by origin, but her love for New York City is one to rival any native born citizen. Kova began by designing jewelry before expanding to include ready-to-wear. In the wake of recent accolades in the press and in her fourth year of designing, Kova showed this season in NYFW for the first time. But this isn't the first time that her clothes have been in the spotlight, as Kova’s impressive roster of celebrity fans include Julianne Moore, Lorde, Glenn Close, Coco Rocha and Mischa Barton; all of whom have worn her clothes on the red carpet. Laverne Cox of Orange is the New Black showed her support by attending this season’s presentation, which was held on the rooftop of The Mondrian Soho. We caught up with Valentina before the show to learn what it is about NYC that made her fall in love, and how she stays motivated in this fiercely competitive city.
