I started my career in media as a teenage intern at Paper Magazine. I was an Upper East Side kid with blue Manic Panic hair and combat boots and I would subway down to Tribeca where Paper's founders and editors David Hershkovits and Kim Hastreiter put together the magazine in Kim's loft. Fast forward and Paper is turning 30. The iconic downtown style bible is having a blowout party tonight with a performance by otherworldly pop shock princess, Brooke Candy (who is one of the September anniversary cover stars along with my pal Courtney Love). Kim and David, my mentors and the hip Jewish parents I never had but always wanted, gave me the scoop on the redesign of the magazine, the party and the next three decades.
