Le Veau d'Or
Le Veau d'OrLe Veau d'Or has been up since the 1960's. It's known about. It's still under the radar for a lot of people who are looking for a good, classic French meal. They have a prix-fixe menu with three courses, but more importantly, the place is a complete time capsule. It's like you've walked into a Parisian restaurant in 1962. There's one waiter, one busboy, and Cathy, who runs the restaurant. Maybe 20 tables in the whole place, tons of regulars who are New York names. It's my favorite restaurant. Last time I was there, I looked across the table and thought, 'Oh that woman looks like Bette Midler.' And it was Bette Midler. The place is dated, but in a very quaint way. They just haven't changed. It's been so successful, for so long, with such a faithful clientele, that they haven't needed to get trendy.
