Since 1972, a three block stretch on the Lower East Side has been closed to traffic every weekend. The Lower East Side Business Improvement District is finally taking advantage of this space with a festival that will celebrate all the food, shops, and music of the Lower East Side.
DayLife: Your Urban Backyard, will be held on Sunday, June 3rd from 12-5pm, and will have some of everyone's LES favorites out for the day. The 3-block area will be transformed into an "urban backyard" complete with food carts, DJs, ping pong, skateboarding, and of course, astro-turf.
Food vendors include The Meatball Shop, Sons of Essex, Mexicue, Casa Mezcal, Georgia's East Side BBQ, 'inoteca, and more. Retail vendors include Any Old Iron, The Hoodie Shop, Nick & Sons Clothing, Skunkfunk, and Volang -- and in addition to all the food and fun, there will be contests, raffles, and giveaways.
NYC has never seen a playground like this one, so head out to Orchard Street on June 3rd to check out all the LES has to offer.
