Though her videos are playful and funny, Queen Naija’s story is one of extraordinary hard work. She tells me about her family and home in Detroit, Michigan. “I wasn’t silver spoon fed. Mom had a job and everything, but [when she] had my brother and sister, it got harder and so we struggled through a lot. At sixteen, I felt like I had to get it on my own and help my mom, so I started working nine to five.” She tells me about her first job at Finish Line, followed by several positions at various grocery stores. Eventually, she became a certified nurse's assistant and worked with her mother. She tells me, “I’ve always been a worker. Anytime I lost a job, I’d find the next job by the next week and be working there.”
