Twitter has been on fire for the past ten minutes with news that Gerard Smith of TV on the Radio passed away. Is it true or could it be another Internet death hoax? Sadly, there has been confirmation:
From the band's website:
"We are very sad to announce the death of our beloved friend and bandmate, Gerard Smith, following a courageous fight against lung cancer. Gerard passed away the morning of April 20th, 2011. We will miss him terribly."
The band announced Gerard's diagnosis in early March, just after they had completed work on their album Nine Types of Light, which was released on April 12. The band has been touring without him and have canceled several shows.
Sad. RIP.
