Public Downfall

As more details emerge about McFarland's Gatsby-like delusions, he is now officially involved in a wire fraud case. On Saturday, his bail was set at $300,000, to be secured by cash or property. He was released after the hearing, but spent one night in a Brooklyn detention center.

His public lawyer, Sabrina P. Shroff, told the court that the 25-year-old's previous lawyers had not been paid enough to continue representing him, and that he would be moving back in with his parents, who are both real estate developers, in New Jersey.

The question of where, exactly, all those assets adding to his lavish lifestyle actually are still remains.
