The Treasures in the Trash Collection
The collection is made up of thousands of items found in the trash of New York, taking up an entire warehouse floor in East Harlem. You wouldn't believe what people throw away. Some people's trash are others' treasures, indeed. It's a unique way to discover the city through the myriad of objects that its habitants have thrown away over the past 30 years. Although the trash museum is not open to the public, you can plan a visit by emailing the NYC Department of Sanitation at tours@dsny.nyc.gov.
