Are You Prepared For Manhattanhenge 2019?

by Stephanie Maida · May 28, 2019

Everyone's favorite Instagrammable urban phenomenon is almost upon us. Where will you be when the sunset perfectly aligns with the city's street grid?

According to Neil deGrasse Tyson, you should position yourself as far east as possible (while still maintaining a view of New Jersey) on large cross streets like 14th, 34th, 42nd, 57th, and 79th. For the best 'grams, however, Tyson suggests 34th and 42nd, thanks to the added bonus of the Empire State and Chrysler buildings.

The half sun on the grid will occur Wednesday, May 29 at 8:13 pm and Saturday, July 13 at 8:21 pm, while the full sun will be in view on Thursday, May 30, 8:12 pm, and Friday, July 12, 8:20 pm. If you want the best spot (and view), you should probably stake your claim up to a half hour before these times, because you know you'll be competing with a ton of other iPhone photographers.
