It's Getting Hot In Here: Some Ideas For Cooling Down

by Jonee Nunes · August 3, 2011

Summer in the city is known for the unbearable heat and the power outages that come with it.  Everyone is always bent on partying hard and they're only making it hotter.  Since we have arrived to the "Dog Days"of summer here are some great ideas that will help you cool down!

    Water Fight

Remember that time in college when everyone decided to break out their old water guns and slip n' slides? Invite your hottest friends to come cool down with you via water weapons.  Don't worry about whether you're too old to do it and embrace your inner child.

    Skinny Dipping

If you've been water gun fighting all summer long, then you should probably take it up a notch and just bare it all in the name of skinny dipping!  If you're feeling adventurous why not let it all hang loose at the beach one night? Honestly speaking, this is a common scene in the Le Bain hot tub so skinny dipping or stripping down to "barely there" clearly hasn't lost its appeal.

    Jet Skiing

Maybe water gun fights and skinny dipping is a little too wet n' wild for your liking.  Who doesn't love jet-skiing?  The wind combined with the water will cooled you down enough to feel comfortable despite the scorching heat.  Popular locations are Coney Island, South Street Seaport, and Sheepshead Bay.  Rent one for the day and grab life by the handlebars!

    Drink To A Good Time

No matter what you end up doing to cool yourself down, it's almost guaranteed that when you're done you'll want a strong drink to top it off.  Geography prevents a good drink from the Caribbean islands, here's a recipe for Jamaican Rum Punch that will have you feeling tropical vibes in the city:

½ Btl. Wray & Nephew Jamaican Rum

½ Btl. Strawberry Syrup or ¾ btl. Grenadine

    ½ can Pineapple Juice

Add some freshly squeezed lemon or lime juice to taste

Mix all ingredients together and serve with party ice!
