Drink Often
Italians know how to party almost as much if not better than us (they can stay up later - ha!). But in general, Italians savor really good alcohol, whether it's a glass of wine or shot of limoncello. Take the time to enjoy your drink instead of binging; it's meant to compliment your meal (or a soccer game) or end off a perfect afternoon out, not destroy you.
"Aperitivo" is the Italian version of Happy Hour, but it's a little more refined than the $4 beers and mozz sticks we look forward to. Here are the best places to happy hour like a respectable Italian:
Aroma
Address: 36 E 4 Street
Aperitivo: 5-7pm, $15 for three wines and antipasti.
Ballaró
Address: 77 2 Avenue
Aperitivo: 6-8pm, $6 wine with platter of meats, cheeses and vegetables.
Tarallucci e Vino
Address: Various locations
Aperitivo: 5-7pm, $6-8 Italian beers (yes, those exist), $12 spritz (the local drink of Venice) and a choice of 3 "stuzzichini" or snacks.
